Helicon was constructed in the mid-1990’s as a part of the regeneration of the Moorgate area. It is a Landmark building comprising nine floors above ground and two below. The equipment consists of original Schindler passenger, goods and vehicle lifts. MKM were awarded the tender for a full modernisation of the six-car group, scenic passenger lifts.
Our challenge was to carry out a full modernisation to six lifts within glass shafts in an occupied building. The tenants remained on site during the works and we replaced the equipment whilst still providing maximum availability and reliability, in particular for the upper floors in a multi- tenant property.
A close relationship with building management had already been forged through the service provision we were providing for the original equipment. We involved equipment manufacturer at the earliest possible stage and were part of our tender bid. This allowed rapid and flexible mobilisation. Further discussions with the client allowed us to split the works into two groups of three lifts which accelerated the programme and reduced the downtime without affecting the occupants.
The customer is benefiting from state-of-the-art lift equipment providing exceptional reliability with open protocol UK sourced equipment. The modernisation programme is on-going.
